Taking a break from Parliamentary parleys and governing the world's largest democracy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will watch the movie Peepli Live at his residence on Sunday.
The special screening of the film has been arranged by the film's producer Aamir Khan. Khan had arranged a similar screening of Peepli Live for the top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party, including senior leader L K Advani, a few days ago. Advani, known to be a film buff, reportedly enjoyed the film a lot.
Peepli Live deals with the politically sensitive issue of farmers' suicide. With a liberal dose of sarcastic humour, it portrays the inadequacy of the government to handle the situation and the eagerness of the electronic media to exploit it.
The film has become one of the most discussed topics during the monsoon session of Parliament, with groups of Members of the House discussing one of the best political satires to hit the silver screen in a long time.
Dr Singh will watch Peepli Live with his family members and key officials of the Prime Minister's Office as the film has generated a great deal of curiosity in government circles.
The current session of Parliament, which has discussed and debated various issues including price rise, increase in the salary of MPs and the Nuclear Liability Bill, will be extended by two days till August 31.
