Tension flared up across Andhra Pradesh on Saturday as pro Telangana students of Osmania University in Hyderabad assaulted a group of teachers from Andhra and Rayala Seema regions, who had come to evaluate B.Ed papers.

Students belonging to the Osmania University Joint Action Committee prevented the teachers from evaluating the papers and forced them to leavethe venue. While the teachers were leaving the place, some of them were attacked and beaten up.

The incident has evoked strong reaction as students of Andhra University in Visakhapatanam and Srivenkateshwara University in Tirupati came out in protest. They also burnt the effigies of Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhara Rao and Telangana political JAC convenor Kodanda Ram demanding stringent action against the students involved in the incident.

Political leaders from Andhra and Rayla Seema also slammed the  incident. Senior TDP leader from Nellore, S Chandramohan Reddy held TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao responsible for the situation.

On the other hand Congress MP from Karimnagar Ponnam Prabhakar while condemning the incident held the university authorities responsible for creating trouble by inviting teachers from outside. University Registrar Bina Kumari however defended inviting teachers from other regions saying it was to expedite the process of evaluation.

As tension prevailed in several university campuses across the state and Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee demanded that all the teachers from other regions should be sent back from evaluation duties, the state governor ESL Narasimhan sought report from the Osmania University vice chancellor.

Ramesh, a leader of OU JAC alleged that the teachers from Andhra and Rayala Seema were not being fair in evaluating their papers. "Last year 60% of our students were deliberately failed in B.Ed examination to deprive them of job opportunities," he claimed.
