The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has alleged that Maoists and organisations backed by them were mobilising people for the August 9 rally of the Trinamool Congress at Lalgarh in West Bengal, which would again lead to tension in the area.
"When the situation is returning to normal, this rally will give fillip to the forces of disruption. The People's Committee against Police's Atrocities and Maoist leader Kishenji have come out openly in support of the rally and they are mobilising people for it," party leader Sitaram Yechury told the media on Thursday.
Maintaining that these developments "reconfirm" that the Trinamool Congress was working in tandem with the Maoists, he said even Home Minister P Chidambaram had said the PCPA was a frontal organisation of the Maoists.
"How can the prime minister continue to live with such a contradiction when members of his Cabinet are not merely associating but are collaborating with Maoists? It is playing with fire," he said.
Observing that the prime minister has been describing Maoist problem as the greatest threat to the nation, he said so far, there has been no clarification from him on the issue.
"Are they more concerned about the stability of the government (Trinamool support to the United Progressive Alliance) than national security," Yechury asked.
Replying to questions, Yechury said, "All those who are members of the Union Cabinet are under oath to protect India's unity and integrity. If you want to violate that oath, then quit and go there (Lalgarh rally)".
Asked whether political activities should be allowed in sensitive places like Lalgarh, the CPI(M) leader said "definitely, it should be allowed".
"But in the name of political activity, you want to destroy normalcy and recreate tension and terror in the area... Does political right give the right to kill," he posed.
In this case, Yechury said CPI(Maoist) was a banned organisation and did not enjoy any political right. "Will you release Nalini who is accused of killing Rajiv Gandhi? She belongs to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam which is also a proscribed body."
Meanwhile, Pulin Baske, CPI(M) MP from Jhargram where Lalgarh is situated, has written to the Prime Minister to "dissuade the Railway Minister to desist from the disastrous course she has chosen to pursue" to go ahead with the August 9 rally.
He said the rally was "clearly aimed to shore up the falling morale of the Maoists and their lot in the PCPA.
