Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has decided to give first-time Members of Parliament special attention in the House.
First-time MPs rarely get opportunities to raise their voices in the House as they usually get to occupy only back-row seats.
Kumar announced on Friday that Monday onwards, she would provide opportunities to first time MPs, especially those who occupy the last row.
The new MPs thumped the desks and hailed her announcement.
Usually, it is just the first two or three rows that grab the attention of the speaker.
This would be a setback to leaders like Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh and Congress MP Jagadambika Pal who always occupy the front rows and stand up to raise one supplementary or the other, and thus providing no opportunity for backbenchers.
