Another twist to Shopian murder case

September 27, 2009 21:32 IST

In yet another turn to the Shopian rape-and-murder case, the gynaecologist, who was part of the team that conducted the second autopsy of the two women, has told the Central Bureau of Investigation that she did not collect vaginal swabs from the victims.

The doctor, who headed the unit of the district hospital of the adjoining south Kashmir Pulwama district, is said to have broken down during questioning by the CBI in Shopian yesterday and narrated the sequence of events.

The doctor is said to have told the interrogators that she had used the gloves used in the ward of the Pulwama hospital to prepare the slides which showed presence of semen to prove the rape.

The CBI yesterday conducted raids on the Pulwama district hospital and seized pairs of gloves and records.

The exhumation of the bodies of the two victims which was scheduled for today was postponed to Monday as the high- level forensic team could not arrive yesterday after their flight was cancelled
