Rahul Mahajan to campaign for sister Poonam

September 23, 2009 15:47 IST

Slain Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan's son Rahul, who is gearing up for his next TV reality show Swayamwar-Season 2, will be campaigning for sister Poonam for the October 13 assembly elections.

Poonam filed her nomination as a BJP candidate from Ghatkopar constituency in suburban Mumbai on Wednesday. Rahul, who accompanied Poonam, said he would campaign for his sister.

Asked how will manage his shooting schedule with the demands of electioneering, Rahul said, "It is the duty of a brother towards his sister and I will carry out the duty. I will undertake padyatra and meet people in the constituency".

Rahul has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since his father's death in 2006.

Pramod was fatally shot on April 22, 2006 by his younger brother Pravin Mahajan. He succumbed to his injuries on May 3, 2006. A month later, Rahul was admitted to a Delhi hospital for a reported drug overdose while Pramod's secretary Vivek Moitra was found dead in his residence. The cause of Moitra's death was reported to be drug overdose.

Thereafter, Rahul married his long-time girlfriend and airline pilot Sweta, but the marriage turned out to be a disaster. Sweta soon filed for divorce and leveled charges of domestic violence against Rahul.

However, Rahul's popularity graph has witnessed an upswing since he featured on the reality show Big Boss.
