She might have waded through raging waters in her reel life many times, but her foray to have a first hand account of the flood situation in her constituency, Rampur, saw cine star and Samajwadi Party member of Parliament, Jaya Prada shaken and sobbing as her boat rocked vigorously.
The brush with reality in Rampur on Sunday, while touring the rural interiors of flood-hit Swar tehsil on a bullock- cart, tractor and boat to get the experience of the devastation left her shrieking at one point of time. The bumpy ride on pot-holed roads had Jaya Prada in tears. She had to be consoled by those accompanying her as the wheel of the bullock cart hit a ditch.
The Rampur MP, who assured locals of all possible help was so moved by the scene that she only talked philosophically about the vagaries of nature, which led to inundation of large areas that were till few days back were facing acute water shortage. The SP MP also participated in party's dharna programme on Monday staging a sit in against the Mayawati government's failure at all fronts.
Meanwhile, Jaya Prada's pesonal assistant, Mustafa accused the local MLA and a former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan of using derogatory language while talking to her on phone. "A local mediaperson of an electronic channel passed on the phone to her for talking to his seniors, which turned out to be Azam Khan, who used abusive language leaving Jaya Prada in tears," Mustafa alleged adding that she has complained to party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in this connection. Meanwhile, Azam Khan was unavailable for comments.
