Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was laid to rest at his estate in Idupulapaya near his home town of Pulivendula at 5.30 pm on Friday as a record number of people poured into the small town in Cuddapah to witness his funeral.

The former CM was given a Christian burial with a priest reading out from the Bible. The last rites were performed by Reddy's wife and son.

YSR's wish to retire to his farm came true in an extremely gruesome manner. He had told his family that he would like to spend his last days at his estate amidst the greenery.

Reddy's family remained calm and composed during the event with son Jaganmohan taking the lead. Soon after the funeral the family left the site. Only close family members were allowed near the body and the never-ending flow of people was kept at a distance by the police. As the funeral took place people chanted slogans hailing YSR. There were also placards seeking to name YSR's son Jaganmohan Reddy as the next chief minister.

A host of delegates including Union Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Ken Rosaiah were present.

The state had arranged for a giant television screen for the public to view the funeral ceremony. The police also had a tough time trying to control the 20,000 vehicles which poured into the town for the funeral.
