Court extends Ghandy's judicial custody

October 30, 2009 20:15 IST

A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy, who was arrested in New Delhi in September, till November 13.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, who is likely to pronounce the order on the Delhi police's plea to conduct a narco-analysis test on Ghandy on Saturday, sent him to 14 days judicial custody.

The court passed its order after canceling Thursday's order, in which it had sent the accused to judicial custody till November 4, in his absence. An ideologue and think-tank of the banned Communist Party of India - Maoist, Ghandy was produced before the court following a production warrant.

The accused, who has been booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, was detained in Delhi on October 20.

Ghandy's release, along with two other leaders, was reportedly demanded by Maoists for the safe return of abducted Jharkhand police Inspector Francis Induwar, who was later beheaded near Ranchi earlier this month.
