RSS chief meets Advani in Delhi

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday held a luncheon meeting with senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani and is understood to have discussed important matters related to the future of the party.

Bhagwat, who arrived in New Delhi today, spent nearly two hours at the residence of Advani. The two held a one-to-one luncheon meeting.

However, both camps avoided making any formal comments on the issues discussed between the two leaders.

Speculations -- that names of some prospective candidates for the post of BJP president were discussed between the two leaders -- were denied by the RSS and sources close to Advani.

"They were (scheduled) to meet and so they held a meeting. There were just the two of them and so one cannot say anything (about what transpired)," said senior RSS leader Manmohan Vaidya.

BJP president Rajnath Singh completes his term in December and the party -- reportedly under the guidance of RSS -- is in the process of short-listing candidates for the post.

Advani, 81, is himself under pressure from some sections to find his successor due to his age and keeping in mind the next Lok Sabha elections, due in 2014.

Bhagwat had hinted that the RSS had fixed 60-65 years as the ideal age for its chief but added that when it came to the BJP, the party would have to decide on its own.
