Terrorists may target Lahore mosques, says Pak

October 26, 2009 10:46 IST

Pakistani intelligence agencies have warned that militants might target places of worship belonging to the Muslim community in Lahore.

According to sources, the Punjab Home Department has also issued a circular to senior officials to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of religious centers across the province. The circular issued by the provincial home department mentioned that three terrorists have been assigned to target those mosques where people gather in large numbers during morning or evening prayers.

Officials have issued another notice warning that a separate group of young militants have been dispatched to the region to target such mediapersons and experts who are reporting against the extremists and their activities, The Daily Times reported. The report also said terrorists are planning to abduct senior government officials and political leaders in order to pressurize the government to free their jailed associates.
