4 policemen arrested in MBA student encounter case

October 24, 2009 19:09 IST

Four policemen have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly killing MBA student Ranvir Singh in a fake encounter on July 3 in Dehradun.

Three policemen have already been arrested in the case on October 14. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Abhinav Kumar said policemen Nitin Chauhan, Chandramohan Rawat, Neeraj Yadav and Rajesh Bisht were arrested late on Friday night and were produced before the special CBI court on Saturday, where they were remanded to 14-day custody.

Singh, 22, a MBA student from Ghaziabad, was shot dead from a close range during the visit of President Pratibha Patil. The police later claimed that Singh was a criminal and was shot dead during an encounter.

But the post-mortem report contradicted the police's claims, which revealed that Singh had been shot dead from a close range, and even tortured before death.

An FIR against 14 police personnel was lodged at Raipur police station and they were all transferred outside the city.
