A strong earthquake jolted residents out of their sleep in Kashmir valley in the wee hours of Friday morning.
The earthquake, measuring 6.3 on Richter scale, hit the valley at 1.21 am, according to the meteorological office in Srinagar. The epicentre of the quake was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan.
As the buildings shook due to the impact of the quake, panic-stricken residents rushed out of their homes. However, there were no reports of any damage to life and property anywhere in the valley.
On October 8, 2005, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale devastated the northern border areas of Uri and Tangdhar, killing hundreds and destroying property worth millions.
