MP: Three SIMI activists get two years imprisonment

Three SIMI activists including it's former head Imran Ansari were awarded two-years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2000 each by a local court for spreading religious enmity.

The sentence was awarded by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamlesh Kumar Itwadia under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code. Besides, Ansari, the sentence was also awarded to Afzal Abdul Rashid and Shahjad Abdul Rashid, the prosecution said.

The case against the trio was registered on November 13, 2000 for planning to organise a meeting and distributing inflammatory articles among the people. A largeĀ amount of banned literature and other related documents were seized from them.
