Cong failed to keep promises in Haryana: BJP

With Haryana going to polls on October 13, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday came out with a list of 'broken promises' in the Congress' 2005 manifesto, alleging that the state government had failed on all fronts.

BJP General Secretary and party's in-charge for Haryana affairs, Vijay Goel, told reporters that the Congress had 'befooled' the people of the state and failed to keep the promises it had made during the previous assembly poll campaign.

"The Congress had promised to provide a corruption-free and terror-free regime. The truth is that corruption has increased manifold in every sphere and the crime graph is surging with incidents of rape, murder, loot and kidnapping becoming the order of the day," Goel alleged.

He said though the Congress had promised to bring the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal water to the state, nothing was done in that direction despite the party ruling at the Centre and the state. The BJP also accused the Congress of going back on its promises of setting up a minorities commission and state human rights commission.

Goel also claimed that the ruling party did not make any reference to its promises of 2005 campaign in this year's manifesto. About Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's electioneering in Karnal and Sirsa, he said, "She has skipped vital issues like inflation, deteriorating law and order situation in the state and acute shortage of power and water".

"Despite all the problems the people are facing, Gandhi has praised (Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh) Hooda and given him certificate for non-existent works," he alleged.
