J&K court sentences militant to death

A court in Jammu and Kashmir has sentenced a militant to death for killing five members of a family in Rajouri district of Jammu region in 2005.

Principal Sessions Judge of Rajouri Subhash Chander Gupta passed the death sentence against Mohammad Younus alias Amir Khan for killing five members of a family in the Raj Nagar area of Rajouri on October 9, 2005.

Younus and four other militants had entered the house of Munshi Ram and killed him, his brother, his two sons and his nephew.

"Had the accused not acted as guided, the militants would not have succeeded in carrying out the crime," the judge said while delivering the verdict.

Earlier, on September 4, Principal District and Sessions Judge of Reasi A K Koul had awarded the death penalty to Abdul Rashid.

Rashid, a militant belonging to the Hizbul Mujaheedin, had killed a 70-year old man and two minor girls in Mahore in 2008.
