An infiltration bid was foiled by the Border Security Force troops, who killed two intruders near Indo-Pak border fencing at Mangral, located 35 km from Jammu, after an exchange of fire for over an hour.
There was cross-border firing at the Mangral border outpost in R S Pura sub-sector of Jammu from Pakistan's Atta Syed area at around 9.30 pm, said Deputy Inspector General (Intelligence wing) of BSF S Sangwan.
Taking retaliatory action, the BSF returned the fire, which continued intermittently till about 10.30 pm, he said.
In the firing, two unidentified intruders were killed, Sangwan said.
While, one body was recovered from the other side of the fencing at Mangral post, the other was found near the fencing at Kharkola post, he said.
"The situation is under control. The militants wanted to enter the Indian side under the cover of fire, but the BSF foiled their design," he said.
Asked if it was an incident of ceasefire violation involving Pakistani rangers, Inspector General of BSF A K Sarolia said investigation is on to establish if Pakistani troops or militants were behind the firing.
He said a protest would be lodged with Pakistan on the firing incident.
This is the second time in a fortnight that a BSF outpost was fired upon from across the border in Jammu region.
On September 18, an outpost had come under fire in Akhnoor sector. However, there was no casualty in the incident.
