Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Monday postponed a debate in the House on the report of the Liberhan Commission, which was scheduled for Tuesday, due to non-availability of Hindi version of the Commission's report on Banri mosque demolition.

The decision was taken by Kumar after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh met her and conveyed to her the inability of her party to participate in the debate without Hindi copies of the report, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told PTI.

Bansal said Kumar later spoke to the government and it was decided to defer the debate.

Several MPs were understood to have expressed inability to take part in the debate due to non-availability of Hindi version of the over 1000-page report of the Commission, which went into the demolition of Babri masjid on December 6, 1992.

A BJP leader said Mulayam Singh Yadav had protested the non-availability of the Hindi version.

The debate is expected to take place next week.

The Rajya Sabha is expected to take up the discussion on the report on December 7, a day after the 17th anniversary of the demolition of the mosque at the disputed site.
