Didn't recommend Manu Sharma's parole: Delhi police

November 27, 2009 20:23 IST

Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal on Friday said that the police department had not recommended the granting of parole to Manu Sharma, serving a life sentence for the murder of model Jessica Lal, who landed in a controversy due to an alleged scuffle in a Delhi nightclub.

"We did not recommend (parole)," Dadwal said.

"It is routine that the government asks the police before granting parole. The police sends its report. It is for the government to take a decision based on that. We had submitted the report when the government asked us," he said.

A controversy erupted after Sharma was spotted at the LAP Lounge Bar on November 7, in violation of his parole norms, which prescribed him to be in Chandigarh. The duo also allegedly got involved in a scuffle.
