Maoists blow up school building in Jharkhand

November 24, 2009 10:41 IST

Maoists blew up a school building at Manjiladih in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Monday night, the police said.

A group of Maoists late on Monday night triggered the blast, damaging the Manjiladih Primary School, District Superintendent of Police Ravi Kant Dhan said.

A police team has been rushed to the spot, he added.

Maoists have been attacking schools to prevent security forces from using them as shelters during their anti-Naxal operations.

According to reports, Maoists have also pasted posters in the district calling for a poll boycott.

Jharkhand goes for a five-phase election from Wednesday with assembly segments in Giridih district scheduled on December 2 and 8.
