J&K: Terrorists kill policeman in Sopore

Terrorists struck in the apple rich Sopore town on Sunday morning killing a special police officer near the main bus stand in the town.

Police said terrorists fired pistol shots from a close range at the SPO identified as Fayaz Ahmad who died on the spot. The area was immediately cordoned and searches were mounted to apprehend the assassins.

A local Lok JanShakti Party leader, Feroze Ahmad who happened to be present near the bus stand, when militants shot and killed the SPO, suffered a massive heart attack.

Efforts to revive him by the doctors in Sopore and in capital Srinagar's [ Images ] hospitals failed as he died on Sunday afternoon. The terrorists had fired two rifle grenades at a security force camp in the town late on Saturday evening. The grenades had exploded without causing any damage.

Meanwhile an army trooper was killed and another wounded in a militant ambush during a search operation in the Rajawar forest area of the Kupwara border district on Sunday.
