In what is being suspected to be a terror attack, one home guard was killed and a head constbale was seriously injured when unknown motor cycle borne-assailants opened fire at a police picket in the old city area of Hyderabad.
The attack, coinciding with the second anniversary of the bomb blast at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad which killed six people, sent shockwaves through the city. Police commissioner B Prasad Rao said that home guard Bala Swamy died on his way to the hospital. The seriously wounded head constable Rajinder was admitted to the care hospital where his condition was critical. The policemen belong to the Falaknuma police station.
The police were suspecting that the incident was linked to the second anniversary of the blast in historic Mecca Masjid in which six people were killed. Subsequent police firing had also claimed 9 lives.
The incident occurred between around 4 pm and a man hunt was launched to nab them. The situation, which was already tense in the old city on account of second anniversary of the blast in Masjid, turned grim and people in some areas shut their shops fearing trouble.
