BJP to use SMS to woo voters

March 10, 2009 01:17 IST
The Bhartiya Janata Party would spend Rs 35 crore, sending SMSes to the electorate to woo them. The party described the turn about by Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik as "most unfortunate."

Siddarth Nath Singh, addressing media-persons on Monday, attacked congress party for its dismal failure to do well." "The United Progressive Alliance government had promised one crore jobs for the aam adami but what did it achieve? It lost 3 crore  jobs instead," Singh said.

Fire brand leader Sushma Swaraj would open the campaign on March 16, from Bhubneswar where she is expected to launch blistering attack on the Biju Janata Dal leader.

"Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's unilateral decision to terminate the 11-year-old alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Biju Janata Dal is most unfortunate," Siddarth said.

While BJP described the decision as betrayal to the people of Orissa by withdrawing from the BJP-BJD allaince."The BJP had strictly adhered to the letter and spirit of coalition dharma throughout this period and stood solidly behind  Patnaik in all his political difficulties," the party spokesman said.

"The people of Orissa will recall the golden years of NDA rule at the Centre under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Prime Ministership, during which a series of steps were initiated to bring Orissa out of its poverty and underdevelopment. If Orissa's status has dramatically improved today, it is significantly because of this contribution. In the aftermath of the tragic super-cyclone, it was the close coordination between the BJP-led Central Government and the State administration that helped contain the disaster," Singh said.

"The BJP has remained steadfast in its commitment to the alliance. But it appears that Left parties and others day-dreaming about their post-election prospects in Delhi have misled Shri Patnaik with the help of some of the Chief Minister's controversial advisers," the BJP spokeperson said.
