Unnao will be largest LS constituency, Lakshadweep smallest

Unnao in Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the largest Lok Sabha constituency while Lakshadweep the smallest after the latest delimitation exercise that has seen addition of 43 million new voters in the country.
    
The number of electorate in Unnao will be 18,97,474 while those in Lakshadweep will be nearly 44,424, the Election
Commission said on Tuesday.
    
The increase in electorate in the country is from 671 million in 2004 polls to 714 million in 2009, it said, adding that UP has the highest number of polling stations i.e. 1,28,112 and the lowest number are in Sikkim with 581.     

There has been increase in polling stations from 6,87,402 in 2004 Lok Sabha elections to 8,28,804 this year.
    
After the delimitation exercise, the number of Parliamentary constituencies reserved for Scheduled Castes has been increased from 79 to 84 while for Scheduled Tribes it has risen from 41 to 47, a net addition of 11 seats.
    
In all, the general elections will be held in 543 Parliamentary constituencies out of which 499 will be newly delimited constituencies.
