Mumbai: Thackeray shifted out of ICU

June 21, 2009 21:04 IST

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, admitted to hospital three days ago, was today shifted out of ICU and was likely to be discharged in the next couple of days.

"Thackeray, whose condition has improved has been shifted out of ICU and is likely to be discharged in a couple of days," a source at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra said.

Thackeray, who set up the Sena in 1966 espousing cause of sons-of-the-soil, was admitted to hospital on June 18 for breathlessness and blood pressure-related issues.

Concerns over health of 82-year-old patriarch prompted the Sena's 43rd foundation day function on June 19 being put off.

Thackeray has been a regular visitor at the hospital for the past couple of years due to age-related problems. Thackeray has handed over day-to-day functioning of the party to son Uddhav.
