Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Rajkumar Patel, whose nomination against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj was rejected in the Lok Sabha polls from Vidisha, has been expelled from the party for six years.
The party took the action against Patel on Tuesday night following a report of the disciplinary action committee headed by senior party leader A K Antony. B K Hariprasad, All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of MP, informed the media about the same.
Soon after the election, Patel was sacked as Madhya Pradesh Congress General Secretary after an AICC enquiry committee had found him guilty of 'gross indiscipline'.
The returning officer had rejected the nomination of Patel on the grounds that the Congress candidate submitted form 'A' after the prescribed time limit.
While submitting his nomination papers, Patel had attached a photocopy of form 'A'. He later rushed the original form but after the scheduled time for filing nominations was over.
Sushma Swaraj was elected as an MP from the Vidisha seat.
