Ahead of their first meeting since the Mumbai terror attacks, Prime Minister Manmmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday shook hands when they came face-to-face at the SCO summit in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Dr Singh and Zardari shook hands after they posed for a group photo with leaders of other Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member nations -- Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

The two leaders shook hands and posed for photographs at the summit venue.

Dr Singh and Zardari are set to meet later in the afternoon on the sidelines of the summit, the first highest-level contact between India and Pakistan since the Mumbai terror attacks.

Besides SCO summit, the prime minister will also attend the summit of Brazil-Russia-India-China.

Ahead of his departure on Monday, Dr Singh said India was ready to play its role in global efforts to overcome the economic slowdown.
