With recovery of a huge quantity of arms and ammunition recently from houses of some CPI(M) leaders at Khejuri in East Midnapore district, Railway minister Mamata Banerjee today suggested involvement of central agencies in combing operations and accused the Left Front government of using the police for partisan ends.

"Let illegal arms be seized with the help of central agencies. Police could also do the job but the Left Front government is using the police for partisan ends," Banerjee told reporters at her residence.

"All policemen are not bad, but a section of police officers are helping CPI(M)," she said. "I have talked to Pranabda (Mukherjee) on Monday night. Today I sent union minister Mukul Roy to Delhi," she said without elaborating.

"Arms and ammunition have been found at Khejuri. It is a serious matter. We demand immediate combing operations for seizure of arms from all, irrespective of party affiliations, otherwise the country's internal security would be under threat,' Banerjee said. She had claimed yesterday that four to five top West Bengal police officials were masterminding alleged state-sponsored terrorism at the behest of CPI(M) and questioned the neutrality of state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen.

"It is only four or five top police officers who are responsible for masterminding state sponsored terrorism against Trinamool Congress in Burdwan, Bankura, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas at the behest of the CPI(M)," Banerjee had said.

CPM feels the heat now

A CPI(M) party office at Itaberia in East Midnapore district was ransacked allegedly by opposition Trinamool Congress activists today after arms and ammunition were found, while the gherao of the Khejuri police station was lifted.

District police sources said people along with police searched the party office in Contai police station area which led to the seizure of three guns, a box of bombs, 100 rounds of ammunition and a sackful of bomb-making materials.

After the police sealed the office and left, Trinamool Congress workers went on the rampage and damaged the building. The people and the police also raided the house of a CPI(M) leader at Mangighaber at Khejuri and seized two guns and 50 bombs, the sources said. The CPI(M) leader, whose name was withheld, fled from the scene. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition had been seized since June 9 stocked in CPI(M) offices and the houses of Marxist leaders.
