2 Indian-Americans killed in New York plane crash

A single-engine Piper plane crashed into the Mohawk River in New York on  Sunday killing at least two people, believed to be Keralites.

Reports from Kerala said that Palghat Olavakode Kolath Mathai George's 12-year-old son Matt George died along with the pilot. Mathai George is in serious condition.The pilot was not identified.

The accident occured near Mohawk Valley Airport at Glenville, New York where the plane is believed to have bounced on the runway after failing to gain altitude during takeoff. The plane sank in 20 feet of water, police sources said. It took almost an hour to rescue three people from the water. Two were confirmed dead.The police did not release the names of the victims. Witnesses told the media that they saw two men and a child leave the Hen House Restaurant at the airport and enter the plane. Police did not confirm how many people were on board. The plane is registered to a company in Delaware.
