Accusing the Marxist government of unleashing 'state-sponsored terrorism' in West Bengal, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday warned that it would invite 'punishment' if the government did not act constitutionally.

"This government must obey the Constitution. Breach of Constitution will invite punishment. We want peace and not terror. I believe in democracy," Trinamool chief told media persons in Kolkata.

Announcing that her party would take out statewide peace processions every Saturday and Sunday, she said the six union ministers from the Trinamool would visit violence-hit areas.

"Bengal is burning," Banerjee said and accused Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee of being 'a vindictive person.'

The minister also alleged that a section of police officers were acting like Communist Party of India-Marxist party cadres. "CPI-M workers in league with the police, after the Marxists' massive poll reverses, are targeting peaceful workers and supporters of Trinamool Congress and harassing them," she claimed.

Alleging that the state government was trying to divert attention from the devastation caused by cyclone Aila, Banerjee said, "It is out to divert attention from its failure to provide relief and arrange rehabilitation for Aila victims."
