Unidentified militants struck near the bus stand in the north Kashmir's Sopore town late this morning, killing a police constable and a civilian.
Police said militants fired at the cop and the civilian from a close range near the busy bus stand this morning killing both of them instantly.
"The cop identified as Ghulam Nabi and the civilian Ashiq Ahmad Dar succumbed to injuries at the spot, before they could be evacuated to hospital," a senior police officer said.
Panic gripped the bus stand area with commuters and bystanders running for cover. Police and security forces cordoned off the area and mounted searches.
No group has yet admitted responsibility for the killings.
