"People have started seeing Rahul Gandhi as the future Prime Minister of India," Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said on Wednesday.

"Rahul is the true inheritor of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy. The Nehru-Gandhi family has immense credibility among the people and people are now seeing Rahul as the future PM," Rajasekhara Reddy told the state assembly.

The Congress party put up a good show in Uttar Pradesh in recent Lok Sabha elections only because of Rahul Gandhi, he pointed out. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi have a lot of credibility and this was reflected in the spectacular show of the Congress in Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Minister said.

Referring to his own government, Reddy said, "The programmes we have undertaken in the last five years bear testimony to our credibility, compassion and courage. However, people were not fully satisfied with us and hence gave us only a good grade. We hoped to earn a distinction, but people gave us only a good grade and asked us to carry on," the Chief Minister said.
