In one of the most powerful speeches Mrs Sushma Swaraj, deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha from Bhartiya Janata Party, demanded that government of India should send two separate delegations to Sri Lanka and Australia to express their solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils and the Indian students who are being targetted in Australia.

" Though the Tamils may belong to another country but the blood is the same. I feel anguished when I see little children being denied milk. We must send a delegation to Sri Lanka to reassure our Tamil brothers and sisters that we are taking up their cause with their government," she said amidst applause by her party colleagues.

Commenting on the Presidential speech, Swaraj mentioned the manner in which Indian students were being targetted in Sydney and Melbourne. " A delegation should also be sent to Australia to study the problems faced by our young boys and girls who are studying there. We want assurance from the government that the students would be given adequate protection," she said.

Mewa Ram, whose son Baljinder was one of the victims of the racist attacks, will leave for Australia on June 10.

"My son Baljinder is better and is recovering. I got my passport last week. The Australian High Commssion in New Delhi ensured that we got our visa within five hours." Mewa Ram told rediff.com.

Indian students contribute Rs 95,000 crore to the Australian exchequer every year but if the present trend continued there would be sharp drop in this figure, said a leading professor of Delhi univerity.
