An army officer, a trooper and three terrorists have been killed in the three-day-long north Kashmir gunfight, according to the army's spokesman in Srinagar.
Lieutenant Colonel J S Brar, spokesman of the army's 15 Corps said that troops carried out searches on Saturday in the Gulabbowl area in north Kashmir Kupwara district, during which they were fired upon by the terrorists, triggering an encounter. "One army major and a trooper were killed in the encounter," he said.
The spokesman said that troops also gunned down three hiding terrorists. "Security forces are now busy searching the area." Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the encounter site.
