Air Marshal N A K Browne, a veteran fighter pilot, took over the charge of Western Air Command, the sword arm of the Indian Air Force on Monday.
Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on June 24, 1972, Air Marshal Browne has flown aircraft including Hunter, all variants of the MiG-21, Jaguar and SU-30MKI. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, he is a Fighter Combat Leader and has also served as an instructor at the Tactics and Combat Development Establishment and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
A graduate of Air Command and Staff College USA, he has held many posts including Chief Operations Officer and Air Officer Commanding of the SU-30 Base and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Intelligence) at Air Headquarters. He was also responsible for establishing the Indian Defence Wing in Tel Aviv, Israel in April 1997 where he served as the Defence Attache till July 2000. Prior to taking over as the WAC Commander, Browne was the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff.
