In Red Sun: Travels In Naxalite Country, journalist Sudeep Chakravarti shares his experiences on the frontlines of the Indian state's battles with Maoism -- in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Nepal and, most importantly, Chhattisgarh.
At the Crossword Book Awards 2008, Sudeep's work was a finalist in the non-fiction (English) category.
In this video, he describes just how serious a problem the Indian government faces, today and in the future, with Naxalism. He also tells us how the Indian media's insistence to air only 'India Shining' stories is actually doing the country a disservice.
Finally, he explains that today's Maoists aren't motivated so-much by a desire for full revolution or for more money, so much as they are motivated by a desire for equality, purpose and dignity.
