Eight people went through some tormenting moments on Wednesday when they got trapped in an elevator in Parliament House complex before being rescued after about one and a half hours.
Seven Rajya Sabha media persons and a liftman were going from ground floor to third floor in the elevator No 5 which got stuck between second and third floor at about 2.20 pm, sources said.
They made frantic calls for rescue and operations were launched immediately to bring them out.
Watch and Ward staff of Parliament first tried to rescue them but later sought the help of Delhi Fire Service, which rushed its personnel, armed with crow bars and cutters.
Even as rescue operation was underway, the issue resonated in the Rajya Sabha where BJP member S S Ahluwalia raised it. "Anything can happen to them. Somebody could get a heart attack," he said.
Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan asked the officials to look into the matter immediately.
Finally, at about 3.50 pm, all the trapped personnel were rescued.
