Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who underwent an angioplasty at a suburban hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, is stable and will be in the Intensive Care Unit till Thursday.
"His condition is stable and he is doing fine," Dr Narendra Trivedi, vice-president of Lilavati Hospital, said on Wednesday. Thackeray was admitted to the private hospital on Monday and underwent an angioplasty, a technique of mechanically widening a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel, on Tuesday.
Thackeray, 83, will be in the ICU for one more day and will be shifted on Thursday to a special room, where he will be under observation for two more days before he is discharged, Trivedi said.
The Sena patriarch has been ailing for the last few years, leaving day-to-day functioning of his party to son Uddhav. Thackeray had spent around a week in the hospital in June after complaining of breathlessness.
