Three policemen and one civilian were injured when militants attacked a group of local policemen with a powerful hand grenade in Srinagar on Monday evening.

The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The condition of one policeman is reportedly serious.

According to the police, militants lobbed the grenade at a police party in Maisuma locality of Srinagar, which was rocked earlier in the day by protests against the disappearance of a local youth.

Policemen fired several warning shots in the air and the area remained tense.

The security in Maisuma area, the stronghold of pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief Yasin Malik, was further beefed up.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

In a separate incident, militants fired two rifle grenades at a police station in Sopore, located in north Kashmir, today afternoon. However, nobody was injured in the attack.
