Militants attack policemen in Srinagar, 4 injured

Three policemen and one civilian were injured when militants attacked a group of local policemen with a powerful hand grenade in Srinagar [ Images ] on Monday evening.
 
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The condition of one policeman is reportedly serious.
 
According to the police, militants lobbed the grenade at a police party in Maisuma locality of Srinagar, which was rocked earlier in the day by protests against the disappearance of a local youth.
 
Policemen fired several warning shots in the air and the area remained tense.

The security in Maisuma area, the stronghold of pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir [ Images ] Liberation Front chief Yasin Malik, was further beefed up.
 
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
 
In a separate incident, militants fired two rifle grenades at a police station in Sopore, located in north Kashmir, today afternoon. However, nobody was injured in the attack.
