The Department of Revenue Intelligence, DRI is tracing a major counterfeit currency racket with roots in Kerala and wings spread across Middle east and Far East.
The DRI has deputed a team of officers under the leadership of a joint director and the team is based out of Karippur airport in Kozhikode ,notorious for the links between customs officials and passengers including smugglers based from Kasargod and Kozhikode and Dubai.
The DRI is on the hunt for Aboobacker of Kasargod whose deputy K.S.Abdulla was arrested by the Police and DRI from Chennai airport while he had landed from Colombo .Abdulla was wanted by the Interpol but Aboobacker has escaped that and is now based in Dubai with alleged links with international mafia operators and sources in the DRI while
collaborating with the Central intelligence agencies have confirmed that he is controlled by the brother of Dawood Ibrahim ,Anees Ibrahim Kaskar who was recently injured in Karachi in a shoot out .
With the recession hitting the globe, the real estate players in the state who had invested heavily in the market has recently got some orders for their unsold properties which were struck following the recession .The orders, which were mainly from the Middle East, had
direct buys with total payment being done. These deals, according to sources in the Intelligence is carried out by Aboobacker and his aides based in Thiruvananthapuram ,Kochi and Kozhikode who act as genuine buyers .However several banks in the state received huge sums of counterfeit currency notes ,mainly of Rs 1000 denominations .
This led to an investigation of the state police and when this did not fetch results ,the DRI and the Central intelligence stepped in . The DRI is trying to unearth the link between the main three airports and the Kochi seaport and the role played by some carriers in bringing the counterfeit currency notes to India to purchase vast areas of lands at heavy prices ,even in the time of recession .
