Three persons were killed on Wednesday when police opened fire in Mysore, 120 kilometres away from Bengaluru, while trying to diffuse a communally charged up situation.

The incident occurred at the Udaigiri area in Mysore after a mob resorted to violence after they had found the carcass of a pig in the Kuba Masjid.

Moments after the carcass was found a huge mob came on to the streets to protest the incident.

However, things turned ugly when the mob went berserk and resorted to violence.

The police force, which was pressed into action, immediately resorted to a lathi charge and even lobbed tear gas shells.

Later the police had to resort to firing when they were unable to control the mob as a result of which three persons died and several others were injured.

The situation is now under control after the police imposed curfew as a precautionary measure. This is the second incident of communal tension reported from Mysore in the past three months.
