A day after Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi [ Images ] backed Manmohan Singh's [ Images ] candidature for prime ministership after the Lok Sabha polls, two United Progressive Alliance [ Images ] allies on Sunday said that they would not be averse to accepting the top job if given a chance.
"Right now, we have Manmohan Singh as the leader. But in case Sharad Pawar [ Images ] gets a chance or Mulayam Singh gets a chance, they will not oppose each other," Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh [ Images ] said.
At the same time, Amar Singh said that his party had no objection to Manmohan Singh's second term in future.
His statement comes at a time when the SP is having a tough time in arriving at an alliance with the Congress in Uttar Pradsh. The Nationalist Congress Party is also pressurising the Congress for a better deal in Maharashtra [ Images ].
NCP and SP have not taken kindly to the Congress' decision of not going for a national alliance and instead opt for seat sharing at state level.
