Andhra Pradesh CM postpones cabinet meeting

December 29, 2009 22:59 IST

In the face of a virtual boycott by 13 ministers from Telangana region, a meeting of the Andhra Pradesh cabinet, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on Wednesday, has been postponed.

"We have postponed the meeting in view of the bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee," Chief Minister K Rosaiah told reporters on Tuesday night.

He, however, did not agree with the suggestion that the meeting was postponed because of the announcement by 13 ministers that they would not attend the meeting of the council of ministers.

Rosaiah said the police would be engaged in overseeing the bandh and as such the cabinet meeting was being postponed.

"It has not been cancelled," he pointed out. Rosaiah said he has not received the resignation letters of the Telangana ministers.

"I was only informed about their resignation," he said in reply to a question.

Ministers hailing from Telangana region, who sent in their common resignation letters to All India Congress Committee chief Sonia Gandhi demanding a clear time frame for formation of Telangana state, said today that they would not attend the scheduled meeting of the state cabinet.
