AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked the leaders and party workers to bury their internal differences and ensure victory of Congress candidates in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections.
The Amethi MP, who is on a two-day tour to his constituency, held a meetingĀ at Amethi with party leaders of three parliamentary constiuencies including Amethi, Rae Bareli and Sultanpur.
"Rahul has asked the leaders and party workers to ensure victory of the party candidates and said internal differences should not hamper the party prospects at any cost," general secretary of Sultanpur district Congress unit Prem Narain Tiwari told PTI.
The meeting held in phases was attended by MPs, MLAs, former MPs and ex-MLAs, besides panchayat, block and village heads.
"During the three-hour long interaction Rahul asked the leaders and workers to strengthen the party at grassroot level," Tiwari said after the meeting.
Rahul said the party should win the council elections and there should be no laxity on the part of the party workers, he added.
