A lady professor of Indian Institute of Management-Indore was found murdered at her official residence inside the high-security campus at Rau near Indore on Friday, the police said.

The dead body of Amrita Pancholi (32) was found lying in the floor of her residence by her maid on Friday morning, when she arrived for household chores and found the doors open, following which she raised an alarm, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jitendra Singh told PTI.

It seems that the young professor was attacked late on Thursday night with sharp-edged weapons by unidentified assailants, police noted. She was stabbed repeatedly nearly a dozen times, which caused fatal injuries, including in her private parts, Singh said, adding that the motive behind the murder is not yet known.

The body has been sent for postmortem and further investigations are on, he said. The police are not ruling out the hand of an insider in the case, as entry in the campus is restricted.

Pancholi hails from Udaipur in Rajasthan and had been working with the IIM in Indore for more than a year. She was a professor in the Human Resources department.
