Confident that the Central government would not back out of creation of Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday said the Congress and the Centre needed some time to act on it.

"The government of India has taken a step towards the formation of Telangana. We cannot even imagine that the Centre would go back," he told journalists.

Asserting that an assembly resolution is not needed for formation of Telangana, Rao said, "It was expected that there will be a bit of reaction from vested interests.

Anti-Telangana protests for united Andhra are all promoted and sponsored by vested interests who have their properties in Hyderabad.

"The Congress at the national level needs some breathing time for the dust to settle down," he said adding that, "The Centre needs some time for the administrative process to be completed."

Rao said the consensus was not needed for the formation of the new state, and added that no consensus was taken when Gujarat and Maharashtra were separated. "Consensus is a senseless argument," he added.

On being asked whether some United Progressive Alliance allies like Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar are against Telangana, he said, "It is all nonsense. No UPA party is against Telangana."

On Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi declaring his support for united Andhra, Rao said, "Naidu (Chandrababu) and Chiranjeevi are changing their colours like chameleons".

"They are putting even chameleons to shame. They knew that the state has already been formed. They are trying to gain a hold in the new Andhra state that is to be formed," he added.

The TRS chief said he has spoken to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and had expressed his gratitude to her.

He asserted that Hyderabad was not a bone of contention. "You will see what will happen."
