No date fixed for Telangana resolution: AP govt

December 10, 2009 22:28 IST

The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday asserted that there would be no going back on the issue of tabling a resolution in the state assembly seeking the formation of a separate Telangana state.

Briefing newsmen after an emergency meeting of the state cabinet late on Thursday night, chaired by Chief Minister M K Rosaiah, Information Minister J Geeta Reddy said they would abide by the decision of the Congress high command on the Telangana resolution.

However, no date has been fixed for tabling the resolution in the house, she said.

The chief minister has asked his cabinet colleagues to prevail upon the Members of Legislative Assembly in their respective districts to withdraw their resignations, sources said.

The resignations would show that they were violating the party high command's directive even after a resolution was adopted in the recent Congress Legislative Party meeting, authorising All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi to take a decision on the Telangana statehood demand, Rosaiah reportedly said.

Ministers hailing from Andhra and Rayalseema regions reportedly pointed out that the MLAs were upset that they were 'not taken into confidence' while taking a decision on the Telangana issue. They also explained the problems they would encounter when they visit their constituencies in the prevailing situation and requested the chief minister to represent their views to the party high command.
