Telangana issue: Chiru asks MLAs to withdraw resignation

December 10, 2009 22:54 IST

Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi has appealed to his party's Members of Legislative Assembly to withdraw their resignations, after eleven of his 18 party legislators quit their assembly membership to protest the Centre's decision to carve out a separate Telangana state.

The filmstar-turned politician convened an emergency meeting with the party legislators on Thursday night and said it was not proper for them to quit their posts in haste.

The MLAs reportedly made it clear that it would be difficult for them to face the people at a time when legislators of other parties had also resigned on the issue.

Chiranjeevi told newsmen that PRP MLAs were facing pressure in the wake of the latest political developments in the state and hence had offered their resignations.

"I, however, appeal to them to take back their resignations," Chiranjeevi said.

The PRP chief found fault with the Congress for "not making its stand on Telangana clear" even after other parties had spelt out their views.
