Two senior ULFA leaders surrender to Indian Army

Following the arrest of the United Liberation Front of Asom chief Arabinda Rajkhowa and nine others on Friday, two senior ULFA cadres who were trained in Myanmar surrendered to the Indian Army on Saturday at Thakurbari in Tezpur in north Assam.

An army spokesman informed that self-styled sergeant of the ULFA Angshuman Bora and another senior cadre Rinku Verma surrendered to the army on Saturday morning along with arms and ammunition.

They deposited one G 3 rifle with four magazines and 104 rounds of ammunition and one 9 mm pistol and a magazine.

Bora had joined the ULFA in January 1998 and was trained in Myanmar. He was allegedly responsible for a bomb blast at Tinsukia in upper Assam in November 2006. Verma had joined the ULFA in November 2005 and was also trained in the outfit's base in Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the fugitive commander-in-chief of the ULFA Paresh Barua in an e-mailed statement to a section of the media denied rifts within the ULFA and stated that the Rajkhowa, deputy commander Raju Baruah and others did not surrender, but had been arrested.
