A new alliance is on the cards and this one involves two of the best-known Jat families of Rajasthan and Haryana.

Deepender Hooda, parliamentarian and son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is all set to get engaged on August 31. The girl, Shweta, is the granddaughter of the senior Congressman and Jat leader of Rajasthan Nathu Ram Mirdha, known and respected not only in the 'Jatland' but outside it as well.

The bride-to-be's elder sister is Jyoti Mirdha, who has been elected as a Lok Sabha member from Rajasthan on a Congress ticket. She is married into the Indiabulls family and her mother-in-law Krishna Gehlot is a former minister in the Haryana government.

Interestingly, at the time of elections, the Congress offered the ticket to Jyoti's mother but at the eleventh hour the family refused the ticket because she had become ill and the ticket was instead given to Jyoti, who won the elections.

Sources say that Jyoti had met Deepender a number of times during Parliament sessions and since both the families were of an 'equal status', the alliance was clinched with the young Hooda giving his nod to finally getting married.

The engagement is expected to be a high profile affair to be held in Delhi at 16, Ashoka Road, while the actual wedding would take place after the Haryana assembly elections, expected in October.

While the Hooda camp is already upbeat about the results of the upcoming elections -- assessing the opposition to be weak and divided and a smooth sail through expected -- the family has one more reason to cheer at the approaching celebrations.
